An autistic child has many behaviors, everybody thinks that our child is not able to speak, and even if He or She does, the words Mumma and Papa do not relate to us. But also keep in mind that speech is the last step, first of all, we have to work on the understanding of our child, only then he or she will reach the speech step.
So Let’s start
1. Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
Make a noun book, in this noun book, put pictures of the child’s Mother, Father, Brother, Sister, and even the Autistic child. You do not need to put pictures of all the relatives, first, you will show pictures only of those who live in your home and stay with the child for 24 hours. When you feel that the child has recognized you then you will add other photos. In the Noun Book put pictures of single persons of everyone in your family and keep in mind that there should be pictures of only one single person on one page.
In PECS, children learn to communicate and gradually start feeling those emotions and attachments within their family. One more thing to keep in mind is that a supportive environment has to be created for the child.
In this noun book, you can put pictures of your child’s Favourite toy, Favourite food, Favourite transport, animals, and birds for recognition, and keep this in mind also play animal sounds, and transport sounds along with the child. If the child is not responding, then you can use the child’s reinforcer to draw his attention towards you.
